Submerged Stainless Steel Drum Filter

Zero-Piping Gravity Filtration Solution for Concrete Channels

The YUTANK Submerged Drum Filter (XCS Series) is engineered for direct installation into RAS sumps or concrete filtration channels. Unlike box-type filters, this unit operates partially submerged, utilizing gravitational water level differences to drive filtration without inlet piping. Constructed entirely from industrial-grade 304 or 316L stainless steel, it offers exceptional durability for large-scale Koi ponds, commercial aquaculture hatcheries, and wastewater treatment upgrades.

  • Direct Integration: Sits directly in the water channel, eliminating complex inlet pipework and reducing hydraulic head loss.
  • High-Capacity Flow: Standard models handle 100–600 m³/h, ideal for gravity-fed systems.
  • Corrosion Resistance: Full stainless steel frame and mesh ensure long service life in freshwater and brackish environments.

  • Product Positioning & ApplicationThe Submerged Drum Filter acts as the primary solid-liquid separation unit in systems where gravity flow is prioritized. It is specifically positioned within the water collection tank or filtration channel of a Recirculating Aquaculture System (RAS). Typical applications include large-scale Koi pond filtration, commercial fish farm sumps, and municipal water treatment retrofits where existing concrete channels are utilized to save space and piping costs.
  • Structure & Working Principle
    • Open Design: The unit consists of a rotating drum covered in stainless steel mesh, mounted on an open stainless steel frame.
    • Filtration Process: Water flows freely into the drum’s interior from the surrounding channel. Impurities >74 microns are trapped on the inner mesh surface, while clean water flows out through the mesh.
    • Automatic Cleaning: When the mesh clogs, the water level inside the drum rises. A liquid level sensor triggers the drive motor and backwash pump. The drum rotates, and high-pressure nozzles blast debris into a collection tray, which discharges waste via gravity or a sludge pump.
  • Core Advantages & Differences
    • Ultra-Low Head Loss: Operates with minimal hydraulic resistance (typically <30cm level difference), significantly reducing energy consumption for system pumps.
    • Cost-Effective Installation: Eliminates the need for large-diameter inlet flanges and pipes required by box-filters.
    • Industrial Durability: The all-stainless steel construction (304/316) outperforms plastic filters in outdoor or harsh UV environments and resists structural deformation under heavy loads.
    • Maintenance Friendly: The open structure allows operators to visually inspect the mesh status at any time without opening access panels.
  • Compatibility & IntegrationIdeally paired with YUTANK UV Sterilizers (Channel Type) installed downstream in the same channel, followed by Biological Filter Media sections. Connects to the Intelligent Control Cabinet for unified management of backwash cycles and water level alarms.

  • Q: What are the civil engineering requirements for installation?
    • A: You need a concrete channel or sump tank. The channel width must be at least 20cm wider than the equipment width to allow for installation clearance. The water depth in the channel should ensure the drum is submerged to the recommended level (typically 60-70%). We provide detailed dimensional drawings for channel construction.
  • Q: Can this be used in seawater aquaculture?
    • A: Yes, but the material specification must be upgraded. Standard models use SUS304, which is suitable for freshwater. For seawater or brackish water (salinity >5‰), please specify SUS316L material for the frame and mesh to prevent corrosion.
  • Q: How is the waste discharged if the unit is submerged?
    • A: The filter has a waste collection trough inside the drum. This trough connects to a waste outlet pipe (typically 110mm). You must ensure there is a natural slope for the waste pipe to drain by gravity, or install a small sewage pump if the drain line is higher than the filter outlet.
  • Q: What is the difference between this and the Box-Type filter?
    • A: The Submerged filter has no outer casing and sits inside the water body, requiring no inlet pipes. The Box-Type filter is a standalone unit that sits on the ground and requires pipes connected to its inlet. Submerged types are better for large flows in concrete channels; Box types are better for smaller systems or where no sump channel exists.
