RAS Protein Skimmer, 10-300m³/h Foam Fractionator
Essential Dissolved Organic Removal for Intensive RAS The YUTANK Protein Skimmer (Foam Fractionator) is engineered to remove fine suspended solids and dissolved organic compounds (DOCs) that mechanical filters miss. Utilizing advanced Venturi injection or nano-bubble technology, it creates a dense foam column that traps proteins, food waste, and bacteria, ejecting them from the system. This process significantly lowers biological oxygen demand (BOD), reduces nitrite accumulation, and improves water clarity, making it indispensable for high-density marine and freshwater aquaculture systems.
High Efficiency: Removes micro-particles <30 microns and dissolved proteins.
Ozone Integration: Acts as an ideal reaction chamber for ozone disinfection, boosting efficiency.
Corrosion Resistant: Durable PP/PE construction withstands harsh saltwater environments.

Product Positioning & Application The Protein Skimmer serves as the “Kidney” of the RAS system, specifically targeting dissolved pollutants. It is positioned after mechanical filtration (Drum Filter) and before biological filtration. It is critical for Marine Hatcheries (Shrimp, Grouper, Seabass) where water quality stability is paramount, and increasingly used in Freshwater RAS to reduce the load on biofilters and improve clarity.
Structure & Working Principle
Bubble Generation: Water enters the column while a specialized pump injects millions of micro-bubbles at the base.
Contact & Adsorption: The counter-current flow keeps bubbles in contact with water for >2 minutes. Hydrophobic organic molecules (proteins, fats) adhere to the bubble surfaces.
Separation: Bubbles rise to form a stable foam at the top, carrying the waste into a collection cup for discharge, while clean water exits from the bottom.
Core Advantages & Differences
Reduced Bio-Load: By physically removing organics before they break down into ammonia/nitrite, it significantly reduces the workload on your biofilter.
Ozone Synergy: Designed as a contact tower for ozone injection. Ozone improves skimming efficiency by flocculating particles, while the skimmer provides the necessary contact time for disinfection.
Visual Control: Transparent collection cups or sight glasses allow operators to instantly monitor waste removal performance and adjust air/water levels easily.
Compatibility & Integration
Perfect Pair: Works best with YUTANK Ozone Generators to create a powerful disinfection + filtration module.
System Layout: Install downstream of the Drum Filter and upstream of the Biofilter for optimal system hygiene.
Q: Do I need a Protein Skimmer for freshwater?
A: While traditionally for saltwater, they are highly beneficial in high-density freshwater RAS. They remove fine solids that drum filters miss and reduce the “yellowing” of water caused by dissolved organics. We equip freshwater models with specialized high-density bubble generators to ensure foam formation.
Q: How do I adjust the skimmer?
A: The skimmer has an outlet valve to control the internal water level. You adjust this so the foam level sits just below the collection cup rim. “Wet foam” removes more water but cleans faster; “Dry foam” removes concentrated waste but slower. We provide a manual to help you find the sweet spot.
Q: Can I inject ozone into this skimmer?
A: Yes, all YUTANK EP-S series skimmers come with a dedicated ozone injection port on the Venturi. This turns the skimmer into an ozone reactor, increasing disinfection efficiency and preventing residual ozone from entering the fish tank directly.
Q: What maintenance is required?
A: Daily: Check foam production and rinse the collection cup. Weekly: Inspect the Venturi injector for salt creep or debris blockage. Monthly: Check the pump impeller. The body is self-cleaning due to the turbulent water flow.
